The grain does the talking.
European birch with a light, fine grain — and extremely strong and hard wearing.
Every piece is cut and finished in our workshop in Cape Town. A beeswax polish infused with Cape May and lemongrass from the Cederberg is rubbed in by hand before the piece is wrapped.
When a Mable has doors, they wear the colour. Twelve of them — from snow white to velvet shiraz — sprayed on in a soft satin hand you can actually feel.

Layered like a book
Thirteen thin sheets of wood pressed together, each turned a quarter-turn from the one below. The result stays flat through damp winters and dry summers — and refuses to crack along a single grain the way solid timber sometimes does.
Real wood, not a skin
Every layer is birch — no fibreboard core under a veneer, no printed-wood laminate pretending. When a shelf picks up a mark after ten good years, you sand the spot, rub in a little oil, and the piece starts over. It gets older; it never goes out of service.
Borrowed from a working forest
Our birch comes from northern European forests where the trees grow back faster than we take them. Sixty-year rotation, naturally regenerating, FSC-certified — wood from a forest, not a site.

Every piece ships with its own assembly manual, and every panel is labelled with a letter-and-number pair that only fits one way. No screwdriver required for the hinges or catches — Blum hardware from Austria, with a 25-year manufacturer warranty.
Moving house is easy as our pieces are designed to be taken apart and reassembled. Mable is with you for the long haul.

We source the wood from sustainably managed Northern European forests and finish every piece with local water-based varnish and Cederberg beeswax. To counter the footprint of the imported ply, we plant trees.
We partner with the reforestation NGO Greenpop, donating a tree for every piece that ships and helping plant them across Southern Africa.
